Haiti Update
I spoke with Pastor Lucien yesterday while he was once again in the Dominican gathering supplies. They have plenty of food for now as many Churches have sent funds through the Dominican Republic. He advised not to send money to Haiti as large fees are charged to handle the transactions. We sent $1200 to him last week in the Dominican.
Things are going well in the orphanage and the children continue to sleep on the new deck we constructed in December. This deck and the playground equipment were not damaged by the earthquakes. The Lord’s timing in having us build this last December was amazing.
There is fear of sleeping in the concrete buildings as aftershocks still occur. The damage done to one wing of the orphanage has been inspected by an American expert and says it can be repaired, This will allow the new missionary quarters above the damaged area not have to be torn down. The damaged area at the main Church is also repairable.
Another Church in Texas donated enough money to purchase a diesel generator for the orphanage. This is a tremendous blessing as they will be able to operate the well to provide fresh drinking water and many other obvious uses.
The KIA truck we purchased for them 4 years ago was destroyed when the young men’s house collapsed on it. We are trying to raise money for this project as well. A good replacement will cost around $30,000. Insurance will not cover the loss.
None of the International Aid has reached the La Plaines area as it focused on the downtown areas where everything collapsed. Pastor Lucien estimates it will be a few more months before commercial air traffic can come to Port au Prince. Many of us want to go to do anything
helpful, but we would be in the way. We help the most now through our prayers and giving.
The children and adults at the orphanage have just finished 3 days of special Praise and Worship, celebrating our Lord Jesus and Thanking Him for their blessings. This is impressive as I am not sure that is what I would be able to do under the same circumstances. No wonder I love the Haitian people so much.
Pray for me this week as I attempt to make some calls to Politicians to see if we can get some of the aid money and supplies funneled to the orphanage. The Holy Spirit has prompted me to think and act BIG. I am expecting big things form the Lord and will do as He leads.
Thanks to everyone for their prayers and support. Please keep praying. For those who have been generous, thank you. I ask for your generosity to continue as we do make a significant difference in the lives of these children. Your rewards are eternal and there is not any better investment in the world, than in the lives of the poor.
Giving at South Brandon is over $5600 and I am aware of another $1500 pledged that will be in soon. Amazing is the generosity of our fellowship.
I will keep you all updated as more information is available.
Thank you for the privilege of being your Missions and Outreach Pastor.
In His Name,
Pastor Ken
